A giant Earth floats inside the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Gaia gives you another reason to look up while exploring the cathedral.
What to expect
Luke Jerram’s seven-metre sculpture uses NASA imagery to show the continents and oceans. It slowly rotates, accompanied by a specially composed soundtrack.
It is a chance to look at our planet from the outside. Take a moment during your cathedral visit to pause beneath it.
Good to know
- Gaia is included with regular cathedral admission: $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. No additional exhibition ticket is needed.
- St. John the Divine has plenty more art to discover, with permanent works alongside temporary exhibitions. I recommend allowing time to explore the cathedral and heading outside to look around the grounds, too. Be sure to include the Peace Fountain in your visit.
