The Fourth of July fireworks are the biggest and best-known fireworks show in New York, and one of the most spectacular Independence Day shows in the country.
What to expect
Fireworks are otherwise relatively rare in New York. That makes this official spectacle, organized by Macy's every year, even more impressive.
For decades, Macy's has put on this huge show with music, lighting, and thousands of fireworks. Millions of people watch the event live on site or on television.
In 2026, the fireworks will be even more special: the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, from 1776 to 2026. This milestone, the Semiquincentennial, makes the show a historic highlight.
The location changes from year to year. In 2026, the fireworks will take place on both the East River (Lower Manhattan & Brooklyn) and the Hudson River (Jersey City) for the first time.
