The Fourth of July fireworks are the biggest and best-known fireworks show in New York, and one of the most spectacular Independence Day shows in the country.
What to expect
Unlike in Germany, where private fireworks are common in many places on New Year's Eve, fireworks are otherwise relatively rare in New York. That makes this official spectacle, organized by Macy's every year, even more impressive.
For decades, Macy's has put on this huge show with music, lighting, and thousands of fireworks. Millions of people watch the event live on site or on television.
In 2026, the fireworks will be even more special: the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, from 1776 to 2026. This milestone, the Semiquincentennial, makes the show a historic highlight.
The location changes from year to year. In 2026, the fireworks will take place on both the East River and the Hudson River for the first time.
Good to know
- The event is generally free.
- In 2025, visitors were able to reserve tickets for certain viewing areas for the first time. It is not yet known whether there will be a reservation system again this year.
