The Tunnel to Towers Run & Walk brings people together to remember September 11, following a route through the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel from Brooklyn to Manhattan.
What to expect
This event tells the story of New York firefighter Stephen Siller. On September 11, 2001, he ran through the then Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel wearing his gear to reach the Twin Towers and lost his life while responding to the attacks. Tunnel to Towers commemorates his final journey and the people who died that day.
You don’t have to run the whole way, either: Participants can walk. Despite the “5K” name, the route is actually around 3.5 miles, ending at West Street and Murray Street in Manhattan. Paid advance registration is required.
Proceeds support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s programs, including those helping first responders and severely injured service members.
