What to expect
The Gottesman Pool at the Davis Center is one of the newest places to swim in New York. The pool is located by the Harlem Meer in the northern part of Central Park and replaces the former Lasker Pool & Rink, which stood here for many decades.
The pool itself is oval-shaped and larger than an Olympic-size swimming pool. Up to 1,000 people can swim at the same time, making it one of the largest public pools in New York.
The Davis Center building was designed to blend as naturally as possible into the Central Park landscape. It has changing rooms, restrooms, and areas to relax, and sits right next to the Harlem Meer.
In summer, the pool is usually open daily from around 11 AM to 7 PM, with a short cleaning break in the afternoon. Like many public pools in New York, it is free to use.
Good to know
- It is worth arriving early. Capacity is limited, and especially on hot days, the line can get incredibly long.
- In winter, the large pool area turns into an ice skating rink.
