The NYC Pride Parade is one of the largest Pride events in the world. Every year at the end of June, hundreds of thousands of people march through Manhattan to celebrate and demonstrate for equality, diversity, and the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
What to expect
The parade starts near Madison Square Park and then makes its way through Greenwich Village, passing the Stonewall National Monument, the historic site where the Stonewall Riots took place in 1969. These protests are considered the beginning of the modern LGBTQ+ movement.
Today, the Pride Parade is a colorful celebration with elaborate floats, music, dance groups, and participants from all over the world. Every year, millions of visitors line the streets of Manhattan and celebrate a weekend full of events around NYC Pride.
Good to know
- The parade takes place in the midday sun, so make sure to protect yourself from the heat.
- After the parade, the celebration continues in Greenwich Village: in the streets, in Washington Square Park, and in plenty of bars.
