A giant menorah lights up Fifth Avenue for Hanukkah. You can join the public candle lighting beside Central Park.
What to expect
The 36-foot menorah stands across from the Plaza Hotel. Designed by artist Yaacov Agam, it has been part of New York’s Hanukkah celebrations since 1977. Another light is lit each evening during the eight-day celebration, accompanied by music and dancing.
Good to know
- Watching is free; no ticket is needed.
- Lighting times vary, especially on Friday and Saturday because of Shabbat. Check the organizer’s schedule before visiting.
- This is the Manhattan celebration, not the separate menorah lighting at Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza.
