Did you know that there is a Ghostbusters Day celebration in New York every year?
What to expect
The event takes place every year in early June and celebrates the cult movie Ghostbusters, which was filmed in New York in 1984 and still has a huge fan community today.
The celebration centers around the Hook & Ladder 8 firehouse in TriBeCa, known in the movie as the Ghostbusters Headquarters. Fans from around the world gather in front of the firehouse, many of them dressed in detailed Ghostbusters uniforms or carrying homemade proton packs.
You can also spot Ecto-1 replicas, elaborate costumes, and lots of creative tributes to the beloved movies.
Usually, you need a bit of luck if you want to peek inside the firehouse, because it is an active fire station and not normally open to visitors.
On Ghostbusters Day, though, things are different: the firehouse opens its doors to fans. The fire truck is parked outside on the street, creating space inside for visitors. Once inside, you can look around and buy different Ghostbusters souvenirs.
Good to know
- Costumes are very welcome.
- Bring cash for souvenirs.
