The Japan Parade is a cultural parade that takes place every May on Manhattan's Upper West Side. It celebrates Japanese culture and the long-standing friendship between Japan and the United States.
What to expect
Thousands of visitors gather along the route to experience traditional dance, music, and impressive costumes.
The parade runs along Central Park West and features a diverse program with taiko drumming groups, martial arts demonstrations, traditional clothing, and many cultural organizations from New York's Japanese community. Well-known personalities from Japan and special guests from politics, culture, or sports often take part as well.
Around the parade, there is also a Japanese street festival where visitors can try Japanese specialties, discover crafts, and learn more about Japanese culture.
