At Wollman Rink, you skate surrounded by Central Park, with the skyscrapers along its southern edge rising behind the trees.
What to expect
The setting is a big part of skating here: trees around the ice, open sky above you, and the city still very much in view. You can easily combine your visit with a walk through the southern part of Central Park, instead of making skating a separate outing.
Another useful difference: your ticket gives you an entry time, but not a fixed-length skating session. Once you’re inside, you can stay for the remaining public skating hours, with breaks when the ice is resurfaced. That gives you time to find your footing without watching the clock.
Skate rental costs $12 on top of admission, and a locker costs another $8 if you need one. Bringing your own skates saves the rental fee. Admission prices vary by date, so compare a few days if your plans are flexible.
Good to know
- The closest park entrance is at 59th Street and Sixth Avenue. Allow time for the walk to the rink.
- Children’s admission applies to ages 4-12. Children ages 3 and under enter free.
- Rental skates use US sizes. If you normally wear European sizes, ask the rental staff for help finding the right fit.
- No re-entry after leaving the facility. Bags are not allowed on the ice.
- There’s another winter skating option at the north end of Central Park: Gottesman Rink at the Davis Center.
